SPRING ALLERGIES
Spring is the time of the year when nature wakes up to life. Trees and flowers bloom and millions of scents and pollens are released in the air.
For this reason patients with allergies experience in spring respiratory discomfort, nasal congestion, teary and itchy eyes.
In cases where over the counter medications are not helping, I recommend a routine examination in the doctor’s office with respiratory, blood and skin testing.
Treatments vary and include over the counter and prescription medications such as leukotriene inhibitors, oral steroids, steroid inhalers and antihistamine sprays. Doctors can prescribe and combine medications with different mechanisms of action for better results.
Immunotherapy treatment is considered when allergy symptoms are severe and poorly controlled. Increasing concentrations of serums are injected over a period of 3 years. Immunotherapy requires discipline and commitment.
Fortunately results can last for many years and immunotherapy is deemed to cure allergies.
